Pre-Workout Prayer: 6 Scriptures to Strengthen Body and Spirit

TonyFounder & Head Coach 4 min read

Before you touch the bar, touch base with God. Six short Scriptures to pray over your training and turn your workout into worship.

The few minutes before a workout set the tone for everything that follows. Instead of scrolling your phone in the parking lot, try something different — pray. Here are six short passages to speak over your training. Read one, breathe, and let it shape your effort.

1. For Renewed Strength

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Pray: “Lord, my strength runs out, but Yours never does. Renew me today.”

2. For Endurance

Hebrews 12:1

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.

Pray: “Help me not to quit — in this set, and in this season of life.”

3. For the Right Motive

Colossians 3:23

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.

Pray: “Let this effort be for Your glory, not my ego.”

4. For Courage Under Fatigue

Joshua 1:9

Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Pray: “When it gets hard, remind me I am not alone.”

5. For a Grateful Heart

Psalm 139:14

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Pray: “Thank You for a body that can move and grow stronger.”

6. For Strength Beyond Yourself

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Pray: “The strength I need today is not mine to manufacture — it is Yours to supply.”

Make It a Habit

You do not need a long, formal prayer. Thirty seconds of surrender changes the whole workout. Pick one verse per week, write it on your water bottle or the back of your hand, and let it run through your mind between sets. Over time, your training becomes a rhythm of worship.

Start with surrender, and even the heaviest day of training becomes holy ground.
